THE VIRGIN BIRTH
One of the doctrines that we believe is the Virgin Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches that Mary was a virgin, having never known a man, when the Son of God became flesh in her womb (Luke 1:27, 34 John 1:14). This event had been predicted 742 years before by the prophet Isaiah (Isa. 7:14). Because he did not have a human father he was born without a sinful nature (Heb. 4:15). He was the perfect God-man and, as such, was able to be a perfect mediator (I Tim. 2:5). Such an entrance into the world qualified him to be the only man who could make a substitutionary atonement for sin (Heb. 9: 26-28).
The Roman Catholic Church has developed a tradition of men (Mark 7:1-15) which declares that Mary was born without a sinful nature. This is re¬ferred to as the Immaculate Conception. This teaching is false, being found nowhere in the Bible, and is designed to elevate Mary and place her alongside of Jesus for worship. Fundamental Christians reject this teaching without apology.
Among Protestant people there has been a wide acceptance of a new translation called “Good News for Modern Man” which is also known as “Today’s English Version”. When the first edition came out it trans¬lated Luke 1: 27 “He had a message for a virgin.“ After Billy Graham publicly endorsed the translation a new edition was printed which made a change in Luke 1:27 to “He had a message for a girl.” This is the Devil’s bait and switch game which is designed to replace the Word of God with error. All of the new modern versions corrupt the Word of God just as Paul said in II Co. 2:17 “For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God...“ At the Fundamental Bible Church (now Race Street Baptist Church) we use only the King James Version which is based upon the Received Text.
