THE GOSPEL FOR WHOSOEVER
Romans 10:13
This
verse tells us that the good news of Salvation through Jesus Christ is
addressed to “whosoever.” God does not say this with tongue in cheek; He
earnestly desires that all men should be saved from sin and eternal fire. The
word “whosoever” eliminates preferential treatment or partiality. It is for the
rich and the poor, the wise and the unwise, the strong and the weak, it is for
the sinner and no one can say he or she is too bad or too far gone. This verse
tells us that we must “call” upon the name of the Lord. This means that the
lost sinner must cry out from his heart to the Lord, asking the Lord to save
him. He must call because he is in danger of Hell fire and because he is
separated from God by the great gulf of sin, unforgiven. When he calls, God has
promised that he “shall be saved.” Our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for
all our sins and He alone is able to cancel the debt we owe. The promise is
that we shall be saved, not that we might be saved. It is
definite and it is eternal. The promise is from God who cannot lie. Now let us
hear it again: - “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.” Dear reader, have you called and are you saved?
