THE GAY RIGHTS MOVEMENT
Much is being written today in the newspapers concerning
equal rights for homosexuals. They are demanding that every employment
opportunity be given them, and that the rights of employers should be denied.
Letters to the Editor continue to pour in, telling us that homosexuals are born
that way and that anyone who opposes their lifestyle is guilty of hate. As
Christians, we need to go to the Word of God and find out what the position of
God is concerning homosexuals. When that position is ascertained, it should
become the position of all those who love God.
In Gen. 18:20 the Lord said that the sin of Sodom was “very grievous”.
God sent two angels to Sodom, in the form of men, and before nightfall the men
of Sodom wanted them brought out of Lot’s home that they might “know them”
(Gen. 19:4,5). Lot begged them not to do “so
wickedly” (Gen. 19:7). It is interesting to note in verse 4 that ALL the people
came for the homosexual acts. According to present—day argument, ALL the people
in Sodom were
born that way. It is hard to believe that all the people in Sodom were born homosexuals. Much better is
it to believe that their perversion was learned. Gen.19:24 tells us that God
rained fire and brimstone upon the homosexual city of Sodom. Jude 7 tells us that their sin was
“going after strange flesh.” That means that it is not natural for men to have
sex relations with other than women. (Even the animal creation knows that) God
told his people Israel
in Lev. 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both
of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their
blood shall be upon them”. The obedient nation of Israel was to exercise capital
punishment on those found guilty of homosexual acts. Those today that want to
involve God in a loving way with their sin will not find support from real
Bible believing Christians. In II Peter 2:6 we find that the overthrow of Sodom was intended to be
an example to those that “should live ungodly.” In Jude 7 we find that the
homosexuals that God killed in Sodom
are still presently “suffering the vengeance of eternal fire”.
The Lord Jesus Christ said that they were still to face
further judgment from God (Matt. 10:15). The apostle Paul wrote of the
departure of sinful man from God and said that God gave them up to “vile
affections” (Rom. 1:26). Under this heading of vile affections he placed
homosexuals (Rom.
1:27). Again in I Co. 6:9 he says that “effeminate” and
“abusers of themselves with mankind” will not inherit the kingdom of God. Those
who practice homosexual acts will not be in Heaven. The Word of God is clear
that they can be saved through coming to the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness.
He alone can change the sinful nature of man and make him a new creation (II
Co. 5:17). When Paul wrote to the Corinthians he listed homosexuals along with
those who could not go to Heaven (I Co. 6:9,10), but then he followed it by
saying “and such were some of you; but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified,
but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of
our God” (I Co. 6:11).
Since God is opposed to homosexuality and calls it SIN, then
real Christians who partake of the divine nature will likewise be opposed, and
will call it SIN. The real Christian will seek to bring them to Christ for
salvation and deliverance from sin. Only Christ can change a homosexual and
give him eternal life.
