SO GREAT SALVATION
Heb. 2:3
The greatest thing that has ever been offered to man is personal salvation. He has been offered the opportunity to go to heaven instead of hell. All the people in the world are moving toward two certain goals. The one is Heaven where saved men will dwell with God forever (Rev. 21:3). In Heaven there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain (Rev. 21:4). There will be no sinners there, but only those who are saved (Rev. 21:27). The other is a Lake of Fire (Rev. 2O:15), where lost men will be tormented forever (Rev. 14:10,11). In Hell there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth (Matt. 13:42). The worst suffering in Hell will be to remember that opportunity to go to Heaven was neglected (Luke 16:19-31).
Men will study long hours to get a better job during their short life span on earth, but will neglect to search out the way to Heaven. Men will practice long hours to attain superiority in sports, but will set aside no time to find the way to Heaven. Men will work long hours to carve out a successful career in the business world, but are extremely foolish in managing the destiny of their soul.
God, who is above all, over all, and creator of all, has labored to put a man on earth to save men and bring them into Heaven (John 3:16). God, who could destroy the world and all of humanity, has chosen rather to rescue sinners and take them to Heaven. It is unthinkable that men should pay no attention to “so great a salvation.” The greatest treasure ever known to man lies at the fingertips of his will (Rev. 22:17). He can come to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation if he wants to, but he prefers to put it off for a while. He thinks that later he will have a chance to do something about it. He forgets that he is but a breath away from Hell. He thinks that his sins are not so bad as to merit Hell, but secretly he knows that he cannot merit Heaven. He falters between two opinions, and so does nothing. He neglects the salvation of his soul.
Christ died for our sins and offers pardon and eternal life in Heaven to all that call upon him for salvation from Hell. God is not kidding, he means it, but man is not quite sure. The Word of God says, “How shall we escape ?“ but man somehow thinks that he will. There are many loop¬holes in the laws of our land, but there are no loopholes in the Word of God. The way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ alone, and there will be no escape for those who refuse to come through him (John 14:6 and 3:36).
The greatest blessing known to you is Jesus Christ your Saviour. Have you asked him to save you and take you to Heaven? Why don’t you do it right now?
