FALSE CULTS
THE RADIO CHURCH OF GOD
(Written back in the 70’s)
One of the most deceptive and alluring cults today is the one founded by Herbert W. Armstrong. He is on radio and television with his “World Tomorrow” broadcast, offering free magazines called “The Plain Truth” and “Tomorrows World”. His son, Garner Ted Armstrong, has taken over the preaching chores, and is the heir of the entire cult’s wealth. Their false doctrines are not plainly declared in their broadcasts, but are intro¬duced in the literature that follows upon request. Here are some of their teachings that are contrary to the Word of God:
1. They speak of the Trinity as “heresy.”
2. They say that Jesus had a sinful nature.
3. Teaches the observance of Old Testament holy days, including the Sabbath.
4. Teaches salvations by works, and that it is a process.
5. They deny the resurrection of the body of Christ.
6. Teaches (like Mormons) that we can eventually become God.
7. That the new birth does not take place until the resurrection.
8. Teaches that Law-keeping is essential to salvation (including the Ten Commandments).
9. Denies the personality of the Holy Spirit.
10. Denies that Christians go to Heaven at death. He calls the doctrine of “going to Heaven” - PAGAN.
11. He says that the blood of Christ does not finally save any man.
12. Teaches that no one receives the Holy Spirit until baptized in water.
13. Says that Jesus, alone, of all humans, has so far been saved.
14. Denies the Bible teaching of eternal retribution in Hell.
“....beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness”
II Peter 3:17
By Paul L. Freeman, Evangelist
